Building relationships through trust is at the heart of everything I do: leadership development, organizational design consultation, strategic facilitation, executive coaching and mentoring and change management.

Ballet Shoes

I started my career in the rigorous, demanding field of professional ballet. My early training provided the discipline, focus and creativity that infuse everything I do. While an injury ended my performance career, it began my fascination with trust in dynamic workplace environments. I believe that trust is the currency upon which we trade to do work.

With over two decades of significant, progressive experience in nonprofit leadership and management, I started Mockingbird Consulting to help organizations engage in meaningful, thoughtful change through creative discourse, shared ownership, collaboration and research.

I work in tandem with visionaries and change makers to facilitate emergent solutions so organizations can reach the full potential of their mission. I enjoy aligning organizational culture and individual values as well as guiding transitions in leadership and career development. Grounding meaningful change in research and assessment is at the heart of my work.

Education.

I hold a doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Shenandoah University in Virginia. My research combines my interest in dynamic organizational environments with a curiosity about how people of diverse backgrounds and values come together to do work. In an effort to learn from the past, I study the development of the atomic bomb (1940s–1950s) to learn how people react to extreme stress at work. My studies have given me a lifelong fascination with the individual’s role in workplace functionality and capacity.

My career in arts administration (supported by a master’s degree in Performing Arts Leadership and Management and a bachelor’s in Ballet) includes extensive teaching at the collegiate master’s and doctoral level, work in symphonic management, the dance performance world and senior level executive roles in the education and nonprofit environments.

Consulting.

I combine my unorthodox background and strategic, creative thinking to partner with organizations so they can extend their reach. I help individuals realize their career narratives and align their actions, goals and passions to become change makers. Whether working with individuals or organizations, I create meaningful experiences that achieve sustainable dynamic leadership.

Community & Learning.

I believe ‘to whom much is given, much is expected.’ From local nonprofit board membership to mentorship of developing leaders, I believe individual service is fundamental to a healthy community. I also invest heavily in teaching — both in the performing arts leadership and management industry and in the leadership and organizational theory realm.
